With Goally by your side, we’ll break it down together.
Let’s get down to brass tacks. The Medicaid Waiver Colorado program provides extra support and services to individuals who might not usually qualify for Medicaid. This includes our amazing neurodivergent kids who need a little extra help. It’s a game-changer for many families, but understanding the process is key.
Think of it as a secret door to resources that can make a difference for your family. And, as we all know, when it comes to our kids, every bit of support counts.
Like a VIP pass, not everyone gets access to the benefits of the Medicaid Waiver Colorado. There are specific criteria to meet. For example, your child’s diagnosis, age, and financial situation all come into play. But, most importantly, the waiver is designed for those who require a level of care typically provided in a hospital or facility.
If your child’s needs align with these criteria, you’re on the right track. And remember, Goally is here to help you navigate this process.
Let’s talk about what’s covered under the waiver. It’s a broad spectrum, for sure. The list goes on from personal care to respite for caregivers, behavioral therapy to minor home modifications. It’s designed to support not just the child but the entire family unit, recognizing the ripple effect of neurodivergence.
So, whether you need help with day-to-day care or are looking for therapeutic support, the Medicaid Waiver Colorado covers you.
Alright, we’ve covered the basics. Now, let’s talk about the application process. It may seem daunting, but don’t worry. With the right preparation, it can be a smooth ride.
First things first, gather all necessary documentation. This includes medical records, diagnosis details, and financial information. It’s crucial to show that your child requires a level of care that aligns with the waiver’s purpose. And remember, the more detailed your documentation, the better.
Consider this step as laying the groundwork for your application. With solid evidence in hand, you’re setting yourself up for success.
Next up is the application process. This typically involves an interview and an assessment of your child’s needs. It’s important to be thorough and honest during this process. Remember, the goal is to secure the best possible support for your child.

Circumstance/Diagnosis: Any child under 18 who is diagnosed with either an intellectual and/or developmental disability (this includes autism). The state requires that individuals need an intermediate care facility level of care to qualify. This just means that the individual is unable to get through their day without a lot of supervision.
Income: Income eligibility is only based on the child’s income and not the parents income. This means that your child is financially eligible for the waiver if they don’t have an income.
The CES waiver provides adaptive therapeutic recreational equipment and fees, assistive technology, community connector, home accessibility adaptations, homemaker services, parent education, professional services (e.g. hippotherapy, massage therapy, and movement therapy), respite care, specialized medical equipment and supplies, vehicle adaptations, and youth day.
Call your local Community Center Board and ask about the process.
Colorado’s waiver process is average compared to other states. The CES waiver is the only waiver that provides special support for children with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities like autism so we focused on it here. You can find additional waivers here that can cover general expenses like X-rays, dental, and doctors visits, more specialized waivers if your child requires a hospital or nursing home level of care, and waivers for adults with disabilities.
