Before we dive deeper, let’s get a handle on Kansas Medicaid. It’s a government-funded program that provides health coverage for low-income individuals and families, including those with disabilities. This coverage can be a game-changer for families with neurodivergent kids, covering essential services like therapy, medication, and specialist visits.
But how does this tie in with Goally? Our learning tablet for kids and apps are to support your child’s unique learning needs. Kansas Medicaid can potentially help cover the costs of such tools, making them more accessible for your family.
Now, you might wonder who qualifies for Kansas Medicaid. It’s available to residents who meet certain income and health criteria. Your child’s diagnosis and your family’s financial situation will play a significant role in determining eligibility. Applying is online, by mail, or in person. But, let’s be honest, the process can be a bit daunting, so gathering all necessary documents and information beforehand is essential.
And remember, if you’re overwhelmed, take a deep breath. You’re not alone. There are resources available to help you navigate the application process.

Here’s some good news for families with neurodivergent kids: Kansas Medicaid offers several waiver programs. These waivers provide additional services not typically covered by standard Medicaid, such as respite care, behavioral therapy, and home modifications. Let’s take a closer look at the most relevant waivers:
Waiver | Description |
---|---|
Autism Waiver | Provides intensive individual and family services for kids diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. |
Technology Assisted (TA) Waiver | For kids who require medical technology to compensate for losing a vital body function. |
Seriously Emotionally Disturbed (SED) Waiver | Supports kids with serious emotional disturbances. |
How can you maximize these benefits now that you’re familiar with Kansas Medicaid and its waivers? It’s all about understanding your child’s needs and aligning them with the right services. For example, if your child requires behavioral therapy, the Autism Waiver is a good fit. On the other hand, if your child needs medical equipment, the TA Waiver might be more suitable.
And remember, Goally! Our learning tablets and apps can be valuable to your child’s therapy and learning plan. Kansas Medicaid might help cover the costs, making it easier for your family to access these resources.
Lastly, remember you’re not alone in this journey. Numerous resources and advocacy groups are available to help you navigate Kansas Medicaid. From application assistance to understanding your rights, these organizations can provide invaluable support.
So, take a deep breath, and remember: you’ve got this. And we’re here to help every step of the way.

Circumstance/Diagnosis: Any child or adult older than 5 who is diagnosed with either an intellectual and/or developmental disability (this includes autism). The state requires that individuals need an intermediate care facility level of care to qualify. This just means that the individual is unable to get through their day without a lot of supervision.
Income: Eligibility is based on the child’s income so if they aren’t making any money they will be able to receive services.

Kansas has a bunch of waivers, but this doesn’t mean there are a bunch of waiver slots. You will wait an average of 3-4 years before getting on this waiver. This needs to be changed, the state program evidently just doesn’t have enough funding. Their website is somewhat enigmatic as well. I was taken across several separate platforms which usually makes things more confusing, but each page I landed on had good and useful information.
