The state requires that individuals need at least an intermediate care facility level of care to qualify. This has a technical definition but essentially just means that the individual is unable to get through their day without a lot of supervision.
Income: Income eligibility is only based on the child’s income and not the parents income. This means that your child is financially eligible for the waiver if they don’t have an income.
When you apply for these waivers you will be placed in one of three categories: Building Independence, Family and Individual Supports, and Community Living Waiver. The first helps individuals trying to live on their own, the second helps individuals who live with their families, and the last supports individuals in group homes or other residential settings.

There is a long waiting list that will take years for Developmental Disabilities Services but this is about the only drawback to the state. No parent should have to wait this long, but they provide an Individual and Family Support Program (IFSP) for families on the waitlist so they have funds in the meantime. Their disability waivers are set up very well though, where you apply to all of them at once and then are connected to the waiver that best fits your case-specific needs.
