How Goally Helps Angie’s Kids Build Independence

Angie Ascheman is a mom of 7 kids, 5 of whom are adopted. One day, while researching scheduling tools for kids to stay organized, she came across Goally— and the rest is history.

“I couldn’t believe it! This was exactly what I had been looking for,” she said on one of the free coaching calls Goally offers to help parents get setup.

After hearing more of her story, we couldn’t help but want to share her inspiring parenting journey, and how Goally has helped her navigate it. So without further ado, Meet Angie!

How Angie Became A Mom… of 7!

“Hi my name is Angie; I’ve been a single mother for over ten years. I have two adult children and adopted five (all siblings) under the age of seven.

I started providing foster care in 2014.  My initial plan was to “only foster” but my heart said otherwise. One day I just turned around and wabam!!! There were 5 of them! It all happened so fast.

Roger (now 7) was born very premature (mother didn’t know she was pregnant).

Then came George (now 5). George unfortunately went home with parents for his first six months and was severely neglected and abused.

He now suffers from a TBI and has had years of OT, PT and neck surgery. He is doing so much better but still has many challenges ahead of him. Thankfully, all the other siblings were placed with me directly after birth.

It is exciting seeing them feel proud of themselves as they meet their individual goals each day. This is a game changer for us.”

Archie (now 4) was born and abandoned by the bio parents at the hospital. They didn’t even give a name (because he was a boy they didn’t want him). Don’t worry though, I got to the hospital fast, and when I found him I stared at him thinking what should I name you?? Immediately I felt God’s whisper and so I named him Archie (Archibald).

All three of my boys have been diagnosed with ASD, SPD,and other developmental disabilities and labels (not fond of labels but for the sake of this post Im happy to share).

Then came my little girls Peggy (now 3) and Birdie (almost 2) Many of “my people” said, “Angie, you might be a little nuts taking them all!” There is a good chance they were right about that.

I think being a little crazy might be a prerequisite to this job though.

To say the least it’s been an absolutely exhausting journey. So many ups and downs.

Having three boys with high needs and then trying to be there for each of them when they need it (which many of you understand is almost always NOW) is pretty much impossible.

I am always feeling like I’m letting one or more of them down but have learned to give myself grace because I know I just can’t do it all and I’m doing my best everyday. So one day as I was researching looking for some sort of scheduling type help, I came across the Goally devices. I couldn’t believe it! This was exactly what I had been looking for! I immediately purchased 4 and remember feeling a little hope that night knowing these could potentially be a game changer for me and my family.

How Roger Uses Goally for His Morning Routine

It took a little practice getting them set up and I met with a Goally coach a few times. I was so impressed with their service. They helped me every step of the way! I was amazed at how fast I was able to speak with someone.  I went online and within 3 hours I was talking with a coach!  She was incredibly helpful and fun to talk to!

After our phone call I had started getting the hang of things, I finished setting up Rogers Goally and went to bed thinking nothing of it. I had no idea the surprise that was in store for the next morning!

Roger comes running into my room and says, “Mom, Mom, I’m all done!!” “All done with what??” “My Goally”!!!

Wait??? “So you got dressed, brushed your teeth, ate some breakfast, packed a snack for school and got your water bottle ready?”

“Yep! And look, I got a bunch of points mom!”

Now, granted, he loaded an entire box of graham crackers in his backpack for snack but oh my gosh I was thrilled! I jumped out of bed and we jumped up and down so excited for his accomplishment!! I was so incredibly proud of him and so incredibly thankful that it actually worked!!

It is exciting getting their Goallys set up and seeing them feel proud of themselves as they meet their individual goals each day. This is a game changer for us and I can’t thank  the creators of Goally enough for all their hard work, effort and care creating something that will change our lives and many others lives and families for the better.”
